- Period:
- Second World War (1939-1945)
- Rank:
- Caporal Chef (Corporal 1st Class)
- Awarded on:
- December 14th, 1943
Recommendation:
"Caporal Chef Luc Jean LEFUSTEC, of the French Army, voluntarily undertook to operate a wireless station in enemy occupied territory, fully aware of what awaited him if discovered.
He entered CORSICA on the 2nd July 1943 by submarine at a time when the enemy were making widespread arrests. When another wireless operator was forced to take to the hills, Caporal LEFUSTEC, with complete disregard for his own safety, maintained the only unbroken wireles link with his base until the liberation of the island.
Persistently sought for by the enemy, Caporal LEFUSTEC was constandly obliged to change the location of his station. On one occasion, when surrounded by enemy patrols sent to seek him out, he lay for nine hours in the centre of a herd of swine within earshot of the search parties.
Caporal LEFUSTEC's station provided information on enemy dispositions. But for the facilities which it provided for communications with the patriot forces in CORSICA, it would have been impossible effectively to coordinate their action before and after the landing of Allied forces.
In view of the ingenuity, resourcefulness and gallantry displayed by Caporel LEFUSTEC, I recommend that he be considered for the immediate award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal."
