Biography

Cadet sabin joined his first ship a few days after his 17th birthday in January 1940.In May 1941, ashore after The sinking of SS 'Logician at Crete, he was issued with a rifle by the army. He was a member of a patrol in the hills north-west of Suda Bay when the German airborne invasion commenced on 20 May and was mentioned in a Despatch for distinguished service. Eleven days later, after the retreat across the mountains, he reached an evacuation beach. Unable to be evacuated, he became a Prisoner of War. After liberation and repatriation in 1945, he returned to sea duty as a watch-keeping officer until his release in completion of war service in October 1946.
