Wladyslaw Mrozowski, a Polish Sergeant Major and member of the resistance during the German occupation, fought in the First and Second World War. Mrozowski was captured by the Germans on 28 September 1939 and later released on 16 November 1940 due to health issues. Back in Poland, he joined the Polish resistance and was arrested by the Gestapo, which deported him to Auschwitz-Birkenau and from there to Sachsenhausen. He survived the war.
