Awarded for his leadership of the garrison at Tarnopol. Here his men (who became encircled on the 23.03.1944) fought a desperate defensive action that saw them repel far superior Soviet forces despite being encircled. By tying down significant Soviet forces here his troops also had a major role to play in consolidation of the situation with the XXXXVIII. Armee-Korps.
Also awarded for his leadership of the Tarnopol fortress, this time after his death. Under his command the garrison held out for a total of 24 days, and for faithfully fulfilling his orders Neindorff was recognized appropriately.
