The enemy then launched a strong counter-attack with artillery support and additional support of 8 tanks and 5 self-propelled guns on the company site. Lt. Vasin was wounded, but refused to leave his post. When the heavy machine gun faulted, Lt. Vasin personally picked up a weapon and killed 15 Nazis.

On April 18, 1945, he and his men launched a counterattack on the enemy, which were entrenched at that time on Height 80.5, south of Reichenberg.
