Arnold Lignitz was wounded on August 28th, 1940 when he was shot down in his Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 and was forced to make an emergency landing near Clairmarais. He damaged his Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-5 (Schwarze <<+~) when taking off form Pecs on April 7th, 1941. On September 30th, 1941, Lignitz was shot down over Leningrad by Soviet I-153 fighters. According to unconfirmed sources he died later in a prison in Leningrad. He was officially reported missing in action on August 1st, 1944 and officially is still missing in action. Lingitz achieved a total of 25 confirmed air victories.
