    Biography

    Captain Neil Gilliam was a war volunteer and the only George Medal recipient of the AFS.

    He was and American, as were his parents. After the death of his father, the family moved back to the States. When World War II broke out, he fibbed about his age and went first to North Africa, and from there on to Burma.
