"On 14 Aug 44, near QUESNAY, as the Commanding Officer, Pioneer P, advanced alone and personally disarmed the minefield and the booby traps, which did much to make the breakthrough the enemy lines possible.

On 3 Sep 44, in Abbeville, alone reconnoitred the bridgehead on the river SOMME, and in spite of enemy fire succeeded in holding a footpath across the river, thus considerably speeding the capture of the town."
