On 19th April 1945, during a heavy engagement on Kűsten Kanal (MR 7487), L/Cpl Ciezak displayed great bravery and coolness. Under intense enemy mortar and machine-gun fire, he ran twice to a forward machine-gun position and supplied it with ammunition. When the M.G. gunner was wounded, he took his place, and opening fire at a very short range, repulsed the German counter-attack.
