"On 4th December 1944 patrolling by night the bank of the River Maas, not far from the village of Raamsdonk/Holland, Map Reference : 038499/. Turowski's patrol consisting of eight men came across German patrol of fifteen men, both sides at once opened fire. But the German's superior machine gun fire forced our patrol to scatter, Gunner Turowski having used up almost all his ammunition seized an opportunity and under heavy enemy fire dressed his friend's wound and evacuated him to a place of safety from where he continued to protect his friend and himself. By discharging what was still left of his ammunition from two Sten guns at the enemy. It was only due to Turowski's gallant and prompt action that it was made possible to evacuate his seriously wounded comrade to the nearest Aid Post."
