An allied transport convoy from Reykjavik to Murmansk came under attack by German warplanes and submarines on 28 May 1942. One ship was destroyed, while captain Afanasyeva's ship was damaged. Despite the damage, the captain led its ship safely to the port of Murmansk and delivered the necessary military supplies to the front.
