- Period:
- Second World War (1939-1945)
- Rank:
- Flight Sergeant
- Unit:
- No. 62 Squadron, Royal Air Force
- Awarded on:
- August 3rd, 1945
Citation:
"This airman has completed a large number of day and night sorties many of which
have been over mountainous terrain and in adverse weather. In May, 1945, his aircraft was hit and set on fire by anti-aircraft fire. Handing over control of the aircraft to his second pilot, Flight Sergeant Jones attempted to extinguish the flames. His efforts proved unsuccessful and he sustained burns. Upon resuming control of the aircraft, he realised that there was no alternative but to make a forced landing as the fire was spreading rapidly. Shortly after landing, the aircraft exploded. His ability and coolness undoubtedly saved the lives of his crew. This airman has set a fine example to his fellows."
