"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer, in command of a section of light Tanks, charged into a large body of the enemy drawn up for the attack, running them down and firing into them at pointblank range. He completely disorganised two battalions and prevented any attack developing. The following evening, in carrying out a reconnaissance under intense machine-gun fire, the two remaining members of his crew were wounded, and his engine developed mechanical trouble, but he completed the reconnaissance and brought his Tank back safely."
