"This airman was the navigator bomb aimer of an aircraft detailed to attack the aerodrome at Calathos, one night in February, 1941. Extremely difficult weather conditions were encountered; nevertheless, Sergeant Waddington successfully navigated his aircraft to the objective. In spite of intense anti-aircraft fire, the aerodrome was successfully attacked and two large fires were started. Valuable information was obtained regarding the aerodrome, and the numbers of aircraft there. This airman has participated in numerous operational missions and his outstanding skill and devotion to duty have contributed largely to the safe return of his aircraft in the most adverse weather."
