Jan Boon saw service as commander of Motor Torpedoboot H.M. TM 10. After the capitualation of the Dutch East Indies he left for Australia aboard the Pulu Bras but the vessel was sunk by Japanese bombers. Boon and the survivors arrived in three lifeboats on the island of Sumatra. On March 21st, 1942, he was taken prisoner by Japanese forces near Kroei on Sumatra and interned in a PoW camp in Palembang. On July 17th, 1942 he was transported aboard aboard the Taga Maru to Singapore and detained in Camp Changi on July 21st. Jan Wilhelm Boon was transported to Formosa by boat on August 16th, 1942 and was held captive in camp Tainan Hayto from August 31st onwards. On November 14th 1942, he was transported again, this time to Modji aboard the Dai Nichi to be locked up in a camp in Yokohama on November 25th, 1942. From here, Jan Wilhelm Boon was taken by train on August 26th, 1943 to camp Zentsuji on the island of Sjikoku to be transferred later to camp in Kammioko. December 1945, Jan Wilhelm Boon returned to the Netherlands.
