"Flight Lieutenant Ebenrytter was leading a section of aircraft on an armed reconnaissance over Holland on 14th October 1944, when his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He effected a crash landing in enemy territory and made an attempt to reach British lines, but was engaged by the enemy and captured. Flight Lieutenant Ebenrytter was taken to Rijsbergen for interrogation and later was moved to a Feldgendarmerie, where he remained for three days. He had made plans to escape, but was moved to a civilian prison at Breda before the plan could be put into operation. Next day, with other prisoners, he was marched to Amersfoort. During the journey he developed bad feet. Later he was entrained for Apeldoorn. In company with another officer be broke a window and, while the train was travelling at 30-40 mph, they jumped and made their escape. Seeking aid from friendly farmers, he was eventually put in touch with the Dutch Underground Movement who arranged his successful journey for him."
