- Period:
- Second World War (1939-1945)
- Rank:
- Acting Squadron Leader
- Unit:
- No. 300 (Masovian) Squadron, Royal Air Force
- Awarded on:
- September 5th, 1942
Recommendation:
"This officer has been a member of the squadron since June 1940, and his present position of flight commander has been attained by merit. He is a most skilful pilot and an efficient captain, while his personal bravery has been outstanding. His determination was well evidenced on 2nd May 1941 when, during a sortie to Hamburg, the oxygen supply of the aircraft in which he was flying failed before reaching the target and the crew suffered generally from collapse. The captain became unfit to fly the aircraft and was considering to bomb an alternative target, but Squadron Leader Michalowski volunteered to pilot the aircraft to the target. In spite of his own discomfiture he succeeded in reaching and bombing the target and flying the aircraft safely back to base."
Award approved 5 September 1942.
Rrecommendation drafted 28 August 1941 when he had flown 27 sorties (142 operational hours).
