Biography

Billy Poy was a dispatch rider in Corps Signals, HKVDC. Born in Chiltern, New South Wales, he won the Military Medal for bravery in the battle for Hong Kong. He evaded capture and got to Canada with his family. His daughter Adrienne (married name Clarkson) later became Governor-General of Canada.

"For gallantry and devotion to duty of a high order. This Chinese N.C.O was a despatch rider of the volunteer Signal Unit. Both on the mainland and on the island he was indefatigible in delivering messages although his routes were usually being subjected to bombing from the air, shell and mortar fire. Throughout he was always cheerful, continually volunteering to undertake another delivery and was an example to all of a great devotion to duty."
