Biography

Jimmy Paterson joined the RNZAF in December 1937.After completing his training he sailed for England in April 1939. He joined 82 squadron at Cranfield, June 39,before being posted to 71 wing/226 Squadron, supporting the BEF in France and flying Miles Magister aircraft supplying squadrons with petrol, medical supplies and mail.

After the fall of France, he converted to Spitfires and joined 92 squadron at Pembrey. In july/August he shared a ju88, and destroyed a Me 110. On the 27th Sept he was shot down and killed.James Paterson was killed in action at about 9:20 am on Friday the 27th of September, 1940, when his Spitfire X4422 was shot down in flames during combat with Me.109s over Sevenoaks and crashed near Dartford.
