At M.SALVARO, Pt 826, M.R. L739264 on the 23 Oct. 44 the Bn was engaged in an attack on acommanding and well defended mountain peak. As they advanced casualties in the platoon were heavyand the Platoon Officer was killed. Sjt PERKINS immediately took command of the platoon and under heavy enemy machine gun and mortar fire moved amongst his men, rallied them and fearlessly ledthem in the final attack. His outstanding leadership at a critical time resulted in the attaining of an important objective and the annihilation of the enemy position where many dead were strewn. The prompt assumption of command and the bravery of Sjt PERKINS was directly responsible for the success of the attack.’
