Citation:
"On 3rd August Lieut. Brownlie was leading the Troop which first arrived on the road running East from VIRE. When a Troop was required to remain behind during the night to harrass the road he volunteered for this task knowing that enemy were all around, whilst the remainder of the Sqn withdrew. The following day his Troop was in reserve to the Sqn when a counter-attack in force was put in by enemy tanks and infantry. Our leading Troop was largely knocked out. Lieut. Brownlie brought his Troop up into action immediately and was directly responsible in breaking up the attack in this area destroying 5 enemy tanks and S.P. guns, killing a large number of inf. Throughout he displayed the greatest initiative and determination and no thought for personal safety. His prompt action was directly responsible for the successful breaking up of the enemy counter-attack."
