"Captured near GAZALA on 6 Jun 42, MOFFATT was imprisoned at MACERATA (Camp 53) at the time of the Armistice. Whils in transit in LIBYA on 16 Jun 42, MOFFATT made a bid for freedom by jumping off a lorry, only to be recaptured four days later.
He walked out of Camp 53 on 15 Sep 43, the sentries having deserted. On his way south, at ALFEDENA on 15 Dec 43 he was captured by a German patrol, but escaped from FROSINONE two weeks later whilst on a working party by slipping into a Vineyard. Continuing south, MOFFATT stayed at TUFO di CARSOLI for 2,5 months.
Following his companion's recapture he moved to BARETE, but was himself apprehended on 10 Jun 44. Taken to MONTEREALE, he escaped by "throwing the sentry out of the window and running across the house tops in the dark".
He reported to Allied troops at AQUILA on 17 Jun 44."
