"Figura leggendaria di combattente coloniale, che già in Libia, e nell’Africa Orientale Italiana, superando le più aspre difficoltà di terreno e di clima, aveva in numeri volte trascinato le sue truppe alla vittoria, era l’anima dell’epica difesa di Cheren, imponendosi alla ammirazione dello stesso nemico. Alla testa dei suoi battaglioni, che infiammava con l’esempio del suo indomito valore, si prodigava oltre ogni limite per contrastare il passo all’avversario, superiore per mezzi e per numero, contrattaccandolo con audacia sovrumana anche quando la situazione si era fatta disperata. Colpito mortalmente suggellava in un’aureola di gloria la sua nobile esistenza, tutta intessuta di memorabili episodi di fulgido eroismo. Cheren (A.O.I.), 2 febbraio -17 marzo 1941."
