Citation:
"Flight Lieutenant Gould has proved himself to be an outstanding captain of aircraft. He has participated in attacks on a variety of targets, many of which necessitated very accurate flying at low altitudes over heavily defended areas. During one of these sorties recently he was forced by cloud to fly at a height of betweem 1,500 and 2,000 feet through heavy anti-aircraft fire to be sure of finding the target. His aircraft was damaged by opposing fire but despite this the mission was successfully completed. This officer's courage and devotion to duty have been commendable at all times."
