"Major VERNON ELLIOTT BLOMFIELD, 193707, Suffolk Regiment, British Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations against an armed enmy in enemy occupied territory, from 27 June 1944 to 20 September 1944.
During this period, Major Blomfield, having been parachuted into France, accomplished his mission of organizing and directing the activities of resistance Forces in the Creuse Department with outstanding courage and initiative. Although his forces were temporarily disrupted by a large-scale enemy attack, he successfully regrouped them and led them in numerous actions which resulted in severe losses to the enemy in men and material and culminated in the complete liberation of his Department. His inspiring leadership and courage, despite heavy reverses and great dangers, were an inspiration to his associates and his actions throughout this period contributed greatly to the Allied cause."

This Officer was in command of a training establishment in U.K. where personnel destined for specal missions were given instruction. He volunteered to become a member of an Allied Mission, to operate in Central France, and was parachuted to that area in June 1944. From that moment of his arrival until the liberation of the territory in August 1944 he was almost continually in action and he showed extreme courage and devotion to duty in ensuring the success of his mission.

His attitude gave encouragement to all those with whom he came into contact and he provided an excellent example of sangfroid and determination when the Maquis with which he was operating was attacked by vastly more numerous German forces, enjoying great weapon superiority.

It is recommended that Major BLOMFIELD be awardd the M.B.E. (Mil.).

"Parachuted in Creuse om 3 July, 1944 with the Bergamote Mission. Very briliant Officer who continuously actively trained the troops of the Forces Françaises de l'Interieur (French Resistance) and rendered excellent results.
In the last two weeks of July 1944 in Creuse he acted bravely in battles."
