"Major VERNON ELLIOTT BLOMFIELD, 193707, Suffolk Regiment, British Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations against an armed enmy in enemy occupied territory, from 27 June 1944 to 20 September 1944.
During this period, Major Blomfield, having been parachuted into France, accomplished his mission of organizing and directing the activities of resistance Forces in the Creuse Department with outstanding courage and initiative. Although his forces were temporarily disrupted by a large-scale enemy attack, he successfully regrouped them and led them in numerous actions which resulted in severe losses to the enemy in men and material and culminated in the complete liberation of his Department. His inspiring leadership and courage, despite heavy reverses and great dangers, were an inspiration to his associates and his actions throughout this period contributed greatly to the Allied cause."
