Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy in the early morning of May 11, 1940, as part of the crew of bunker 37 on the Defensiekanaal in the Peel-Raam position near Mill (N.Br.), despite the terrain in front of the bunker not having been sufficierntly cleared yet so he knew the enemy was able to move troops and material unobserved through a forest to very close to the bunker, by holding out until the very last with the commander and the other three men of the crew even though the company had retreated in the late evening of May 10 to continue resisting until the enemy managed to destroy the bunker with anti-tank guns, killing all occupants.
