Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy in the morning of May, 1940 in Rotterdam, being posted to 2 Company Intendance by reporting voluntarily to take part in a 10 men patrol, commanded by a sergeant, in order to impede the enemy's advance from the southern bank of the Meuse to the northern bank.
In particular when a Dutch car, containing two German officers had been fired upon and had stopped in the Rijnhaven, by going to a nearby sheltered trench to fire a number of rounds at the car with his light machine gun.
Subsequently when on his return, a heavily armed enemy patrol of 15 men on motorcycles with sidecar penetrated from the direction of the Putselaan, having opened fire on the enemy and receiving intense point-blank fire.
Finally, during this fierce point-blank fire fight by running back from the group to take up position behind the sheltered trench again, sustaining a mortal injury in the process.
