For having rendered eminent miltary services in times of war on behalf of the Fatherland on May 10, 1940, aboard Our torpedo boat Z5 in Rotterdam to impede the crossing of German troops from the southern to the northern bank of the river Meuse and across the Maasbrug, calmly and meticulously executing his tasks under heavy fire from machine guns and light artillery in such a way that the vessel, of which 7 crew memberes were injured during this action, could retreat without further damage after all ammunition had been spent.
