Biography

Groen was reserve 1st Lieutenant Aviator Observer in the strategic group of bomb planes in the 2nd division of the 1st group of the 1st aviation regiment. German planes flew towards Rotterdam and The Hague on May 10, 1940. The Dutch Air Force took off from Schiphol towards Waalhaven with a number of Fokker type aircraft to bomb stationary German aircraft. They got into a fight with the Germans above this airfield. Groen flew in the Fokker T-V 862 (with two more Fokkers) and dropped bombs on the parked German planes. Immediately afterwards he was shot at by a Messerschmidt during combat and his plane caught fire. Groen crashed burning on the Langeweg. All crew members died.
