Biography

De Koning served as a pilot for KLM and was shot down by a German patrol over the Bay of Biscay on the Lisbon-Bristol route on June 1, 1943 during the Bristol-Lisbon scheduled service.
Dirk de Koning was awarded the Pilot's Cross by Prince Bernhard on June 15, 1942 for his services as a reserve first lieutenant in the RAF 320 Squadron. In 1943 he posthumously received this award for a second time.
