Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy in the period between February up to and including May 1949 as convoy commander on the extremely dangerous route from Salatiga to Solo on central Java.
In particular by displaying exceptional cold-bloodedness and willingness to sacrifice when the entire security team had been forced to seek cover due to unexpected enemy fire, which immediately caused the death of one soldier of his platoon, by going back to the 3-ton truck under heavy fire in order to retrieve a box of Bren magazines which had been left behind, enabling the Bren gunner to continue firing and drive off the enemy.
Furthermore in Sragan, in the night of July 14 to 15, 1949, after having learned that the commander of a security party in the vicinity had been injured, by immediately going there with 3 volunteers in order to try and save the injured man, notwithstanding the heavy enemy fire, at which attempt he was injured himself, succumbing to his injuries a few hours later.
By having been an example to his men at all times and usually being there where the danger was greatest and whenever necessary, personally clearing enemy bombs and mines.
