He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy belonging to the Guards Company of the Ockenburg auxiliary airfield by holding out under heavy enemy machinegun fire after hostile troops in transport aircraft as well as paratroops in overwhelming numbers and firepower had landed on and around this airfield until he was killed while repairing a light machinegun under enemy fire.
