"Until his recent posting overseas, Wing Commander Roberts commanded the Royal Air Force Marine Craft School for three years. This school was located at Corsewell in a very isolated part of Scotland and consisted of a very uncomfortable hutted camp with practically no amenities. During his period of command Wing Commander Roberts built up this mediocre school into a first class Unit. He improved the training and maintenance of marine craft beyond recognition and applied himself to improving the general amenities of his Station and the welfare of his personnel with considerable energy. His efforts were outstandingly successful and by his strong character, high purpose and initiative, this remote Station turned into an efficient and happy Unit. The standard of technical efficiency, discipline and seamanship achieved was the outcome of his ceaseless endeavours. Wing Commander Roberts has served in the Merchant Navy before joining the Royal Air Force and before being appointed to Corsewell he was engaged for a time on Air Sea Rescue work, with praiseworthy results."
