"For conspicuous gallantry and initiative at HOUTHEN on 27 May while in command of an 18-pr gun in an Anti-tank role. He engaged numbers of machine gun and infantry targets over open sights with concupiscence success from a very close and exposed position, being subjected throughout the day to heavy shell and machine gun fire. L/Sjt BROWN displayed conspicuous powers of leadership and inspired his detachment with his coolness and clear-headedness. Although wounded early in the day, he remained at his post until his gun was ordered to withdraw and maintained his grip on the situation.
