Biography

Daan de Blocq van Scheltinga was already 21 years old when he graduated from MULO. After that he served with the Hussars in Amersfoort. He was married to Elisabeth gräfin von der Goltz (1904-1991) from Berlin from 1928-1952. Together they became members of the NSB in 1932. He replaced Sweder baron van Wijnbergen as mayor of Wassenaar from August 1942-May 1945. During that period he replaced opponents with NSB members. In September 1942 he requested the German Ordnungspolizei to remove the Jewish residents of Wassenaar from their homes and deport them.

After the liberation he was arrested on 7 May 1945. On appeal he was sentenced to twenty years in prison on 5 December 1945. After a sentence was reduced as a result of a request for clemency, he was released in 1953. In 1958 he left for Germany where he remarried in 1960 to Gisela Düts (1913), also from Berlin.
