Biography
Frank Panter served on HMS Ajax, HMS Glengyle, a merchant ship converted into a Commando carrier. He saw action in Crete, Syria, Egypt and Tobruk
Later he helped transport the ill-fated Canadians to Dieppe in 1942.
In 1945 he served on HMS Anson which joined the Pacific Fleet for the final stages of the war. He saw the surrender of the Japanese in Hong Kong and went on to visit Hiroshima, Japan.
After the war Frank had a great love of fly fishing and became a bailiff on the River Meon.

Citation:
"who, when knocked down and wounded by the explosion of an n-inch shell which started fires, filled the compartment with smoke and put out all lights, went at once to the centre of the damage, where he encouraged and directed the repair parties and did all he could to limit and control the illeffects."
