William Thomas Berry was born on January 1st, 1914.
He served as Lance Sergeant with the Royal Engineers and was crew member of the reconnaissence vehicle which was hit by heavy German fire on September 19th, 1944 on the corner of Lange Hezelstraat and Nieuwe Markt in Nijmegen. This car was accompanied by resistance fighter Jan van Hoof. Lance Sergeant Berry, with driver A. Shaw and US paratrooper C.M. Ward were killed in this event. Jan van Hoof was executed by German troops during this.
According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Willliam Thomas Berry was killed on September 21st, 1944. Research suggests this is not correct.
