Biography
Bertram Wood enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1924 and served on
HMS ARK Royal, HMS Royal Sovereign, HMS Repulse, HMS Renown, HMS Ramilies, HMS Valiant, HMS Pegasus, HMS Ajax, and HMS Havock.
Wood died of wounds caused by a ruptured steam pipe when HMS Havock ran aground on 6th April 1942 off the Tunis Coast whilst being fired upon by the Italian Fleet.
Wood was taken off board and admitted to the Hospital Militaire, Louis Vaillard, Tunis, where he died of his wounds on 25th April 1942.

"who showed special bravery, presence of mind and forwardness in controlling damage when an n-inch shell burst near him. He entered " X" lobby when a number of casualties had occurred, and, single handed, put out a fire."
