Wolfgang Schmidhuber was the son of Major General Gerhard Schmidhuber. His personnel file is in the Bundesarchiv, Militärarchiv department in Freiburg. The birth certificate in this file confirms that he is the son of the Major General. More information can be found in the Skorzeny Process File (Skorzeny et all, M1106). More about that later. Wolfgang Schmidhuber visited a gymnasium from March 1932 - December 1937, then until 1937 the Deutsche Oberschule and obtained his Reifezeugnis. According to Wikipedia, a diploma in pre-university education. Wolfgang Schmidhuber joined the Wehrmacht from 01.12.1929. Various sources were also used here. The personnel file and the data originating from the Deutsche Dienststelle. Both sources have been processed in a form that can be found in the complete biography, see link to site in source reference.

Wolfgang Schmidhuber served at the Infantry Battalion 103, because at one point the regiment was restructured, the Schützen Regiment 103 can also be found in his documentation. to find back. From 1943, Wolfgang Schmidhuber served with tank units. Wolfgang Schmidhuber became Oberleutnant on 01.12.1943. Schmidhuber has been in a hospital several times with various injuries. On 21.12.1944 Wolfgang Schmidhuber died as a member of the 4. Kompanie - Kommando Kompanie / Panzerbrigade 150, according to the Deutsche Dienststelle.

To find out about the circumstances of Schmidhuber's death, we have to go to the Skorzeny criminal file. In the trial against Skorzeny, a witness was heard, Kurt Siebauer. This witness stated that he knew Schmidhuber and also described him in detail. Kurt Siebauer also stated that Schmidhuber and the rest of this team were dressed in American uniforms. According to Siebauer, after being in the American field, the group was stopped by 2 MPs. Schmidhuber said something and the Americans immediately told them to raise their hands. The MPs started shooting, someone from the team shot back and killed the 2 MPs. Schmidhuber was also hit during that shooting. Siebauer is not entirely sure if Schmidhuber was immediately dead or injured. Schmidhuber, who spoke poor English, had been ordered to say nothing. Kurt Siebauer had the information of the returned members of the Schmidhuber team. Siebauer team members were convinced that Schmidhuber had put his people at risk by speaking. Members of the group that Siebauer was with were completely finished with Wolfgang Schmidhuber after that action. If he were assigned to them, they would shoot him. According to the data from the Deutsche Dienststelle, Wolfgang Schmidhuber died on 21.12.1944 at 03.14 o'clock east of Malmedy. Skorzeny also told something about Schmidhuber. It is striking that he could remember that Schmidhuber was buried in Ligneuville. It is striking that Schmidhuber is buried in the soldiers' cemetery in Königswinter-Ittenbach as an unknown soldier.
