Piet Greiner fled on board of Pilot Boat No. 10 in 1940 by Le Havre to England. From England he served in coastal services and served on the tug De Schelde, Smit Tug Services, during the Normandy invasion. In September/October 1944 he was called to the Pilot Service again for duty on the river Schelde after the liberation of Walcheren en Zeeland.
