During the tank battles near Postschenka in the time period 8-11.09.1942 Oberleutnant Schnatz particularly distinguished himself. He and his Flak battery destroyed 28 enemy tanks and 17 guns, and in doing so helped open the way for a Panzer division to break out towards the Volga. For this success he would receive the Knight’s Cross.
Awarded posthumously.
