On 24-7-1941 at 23:05 the Vickers Wellington took off in Yorkshire to take part in an attack on Emden.
At 2:23 am the Wellington was shot down by a German night fighter and crashed near Opperdoes.
Rzepa's body was immediately recovered.
The others were only recovered from the wreck after the war and buried in Rotterdam.
