On the 12.08.1941 the LI. Armeekorps, with the 113., 262. and 98. Infanterie-Divisionen, launched an attack with the objective of pushing aside the Soviet rearguards and reaching the Dnieper as soon as possible. In support of this assault was the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 191.

Oberleutnant Möller, Chef of the 2. Batterie, would particularly distinguish himself during the course of this fighting. The day after the enemy lines had been broken through (14.08.1941), elements of the Infanterie-Regiment 282 and the 2. Batterie managed to capture the village of Medynowaja-Sloboda against fierce resistance. Without infantry support Möller then continued the advance forward and with 9 Sturmgeschütze was able to capture the strategically important Hill 178.

After observing that the attack of the Korps on the left wing (XVII. Armeekorps) had not kept up, Möller decided to support it after Hill 178 had been occupied by the 5./Infanterie-Regiment 282. On his own initiative he attacked towards the west, captured the village of Gorbatschi and made contact with the 56. Infanterie-Division. 5 of Möller’s assault guns then attacked towards the Gorbatschi brickyard and successfully cut off elements of the retreating Soviets, which were thereafter wiped out or taken prisoner.

For the successes of his Batterie throughout this time period, which contributed significantly to the attack’s progress, Möller would receive the Knight’s Cross.
