Oberst (Colonel)

Grosan’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…

“Oberst Grosan has distinguished himself through the ruthlessness and exemplary personal bravery he showed while serving with his Kampfgruppe during the days it was encircled. Through boldly led counterattacks he has prevented an enemy breakthrough east of Soltau while tying down strong enemy forces. So far 115 tanks have been destroyed. Personal documents are not possible to include due to the enemy situation.”

Erhard Grosan's nomination by the Außenstelle of the Heerespersonalamt (HPA/A—Branch of the Army Staff Office) was ready for signature by the end of the war. According to the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (OdR) the award was presented in accordance with the Dönitz-decree. This is illegal according to the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) and lacks legal justification. The presentation date is an assumption of the OdR.
