"Lieutenant Twardowski, as commander of an engineering platoon, during 19th-21st April 1945 opened up laterals along the River Idice and came across a new method of road mining. i.e. along the road bombs of medium calibre were dug in to the ground whilst a fibre mine with a booby trap attached was placed under the bomb.
There was no time to call up the bomb disposal section and Lieutenant Twardowski despite great personal risk, personally disarmed several such nests during the night, thus enabling the road to be opened for traffic.
By his prompt and courageous action he very materially helped in the further development of the operations".
