Citation:
"On the night of 6/7 November, 1941, this N.C.O. was 2nd in command of a fighting patrol sent out to discover the enemy's forward posts and locate a minefield. The patrol succeeded in this but were heavily engaged by the enemy with accurate M.G. fire, mortars and hand grenades. The patrol commander who was then only fifty yards from one of the posts and in the open, gave orders for the patrol to withdraw, and shortly afterwards was seen to be hit.
Hav. Chatterbuj Singh then crawled forward to his British Officer to render first aid. He stayed with him for ten minutes and then, seeing that his Officer was dead, and that a party of enemy were making a forward move, he deliberately removed the Officer's revolver and binoculars and withdrew still under heavy fire. He then organized the withdrawal of the covering party and brought them into our position.
This N.C.O. has on three different occasions as commander or 2nd in command of a fighting patrol brought in accurate information of the enemy's forward dispositions."
