"On 17 APR 45 during the fighting near CASTEL SAN PIETRO, Lieut BEDNARSKI made an artillery survey of a certain objective for 8 Heavy Regiment under fire from heavy enemy guns. Disregarding the fact that Commander 1 Battery 9 Heavy Regiment and another officer were blown up on a mine in front of him, Lieut BEDNARSKI proceeded along the same road to a point near a crossing of the SILLARO, which was then under enemy artillery fire. Despite this fire he climbed on to the roof of a building, leaving his svy detachment concealed behind house, and identified the trig points, after which he called the detachment to the roof to proceed with its work. He remained on the roof all the time, completely disregarding shell splinters which were falling on the roof. After completion of the survey he checked it himself in order to make certain of the results of the work carried out in the face of danger. By his courage he caused the bearing picket to be rapilly conveyed to the battery, which had a special task to fulfill."
