"On 19th April 1945 in area Quaderna-il-Ponte, 4 Wolynska Brigade was directed to the 5 Wilno Brigade sector as 4 Brigade troops had to pass through 5 Brigade as rapidly as possible. This task presented considerable difficulties as the bulk of the Brigade was operating along a different axis. In this situation the fine leadership and organising abilities of Captain Samulski, the Brigade Major, made it possible for the Battalions to be diverted to the correct axis. As well as the coordination of the supporting arms and the fighting troops and enabled the Armoured Regiment to be committed with as little delay as possible. Thanks to his inexhaustible energy, great skill and the ability to surmount all difficulties, it was possible to mount an attack and send a raiding force towards Bologna. Throughout the whole operation he closely cooperated with the Liaison Officers from the British support arms, thanks to which the operation called for was given very quickly and in time to the fighting units".
