"Corporal Kasperowicz has served as a gun commander throughout the battles of 2 Polish Corps in Italy, beginning with the Sangro River and ending with the operations against Bologna. In these battles despite difficult conditions and danger on numerous occasions, he always set to those under him a fine example by his courage, devotion to duty and the will to fight. During the night of 6th/7th April 1945, Corporal Kasperowicz's gun was heavily shelled by enemy artillery and he himself was wounded, seeing a blazing camouflage net, which was setting the ammunition off. He by his personal intervention, despite the danger of an impending explosion, saved the ammunition and prevented an explosion, which could have caused serious casualties amongst the men. It is stressed that Corporal Kasperowicz, during this action was burnt several times and his blazing clothes had to be extinguished on each occasion."
