"The work of the Polish Artillery Survey Directorate under Major L. Szymkiewicz has been of great value to Eighth Army during the Italian Campaign, since February 1944. The difficult task of carrying out training of reinforcements at the same time maintaining a high standard of out put in 12 Polish Field Survey Company has been overcome. The result is I consider very largely due to the energetic direction of Major Szymkiewicz who has at all times carried out the survey work allotted to him quickly and thoroughly, whilst losing no opportunity to improve the units under his command."
